Cowboy.Space.Araby challenges assumed narratives through the lenses of Arab American pioneers and the nature of Arab futurism. Dance, music and poetry with humor and gravity portray historical Arab American cowboys with NASA’s Moon and Mars explorations as active and visible participants. Drawing from historical Arab cowboys and space travelers, Cowboy.Space.Araby reframes past, present, and future by highlighting Arab contributions to Western civilization. Performers include oud player Clarissa Bitar with dancers (and sisters) Amanda and Andrea Nasser. Cowboy.Space.Araby honors the cowboys who were originally Indigenous, Mexican, African and Arab. The innovative performance and choreography are materials for a film created by Doris Bittar to probe the hybrid nature within the mythology of Americana. Cowboy.Space.Araby highlights erasure and invisibility to expand human imagination as human collective sharing.
