JOHN M. EGER (Cultural Correspondent)
Emeritus Director of the Creative Economy Initiative at SDSU, he previously held the Van Deerlin Endowed Chair of Communications and Public Policy and taught in Journalism, Media Studies, and the Honors Program. A former adviser in the White House and FCC, he played a key role in reshaping U.S. telecommunications and later served as Senior VP at CBS, helping open China to commercial television. He’s an author and lecturer on creativity, innovation, education, and economic development, and has led multiple state and city technology commissions. His honors include a top award from Japan’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and designation as a Fulbright Senior Specialist, supporting global telecom and economic development efforts.
