ART SHOP TALK: Francisco Morales

ART SHOP TALK with Susanna Peredo Swap, Founder of Vanguard Culture and Francisco Morales, Gallery Director of The FRONT Arte & Cultura. In this talk, we highlight notable emerging BIPOC artists and discuss their current Día de la Mujer exhibition, entitled Domestic Geographies which incorporates mixed media, multimedia, sculpture, fiber arts, photography and traditional 2D. All artists have developed work in the SD/Tijuana region, as well has having worked and exhibited internationally. Curated by Ingrid Hernandez, with guest video art and film curators: Karla Aguiñiga (video art curator) and Itzel Martinez del Cañizo (film curator). The central theme of Domestic Geographies is the home. Each artist has submitted works that respond to the various roles that women play in the home and attempt to reimagine them. Sub-themes include:

  • The home as a place for activism, micropolitics and personal agency.
  • The is body and identity. The body honored, questioned, and accepted.
  • The reinterpretation of family traditions and inheritances.
  • The reimagining of domestic roles and tasks
  • Traditions, identities and migration
